May 25 (Xinhua) -- German Metro, a transnational chain-store dealer, will invest 15 million U.S. dollars in building the largest supermarket in the western part of China, a company executive official announced here recently.

The supermarket will occupy two hectares of land in downtown Chongqing on the southern bank of the Yangtze River.

German Metro is the second transnational chain-store giant investing in Chongqing after Carrefour, a leading chain store dealer in France.

German Metro, which ranks 32nd among the top 100 companies in the world, has 320 chain stores around the globe and earned 51.4 billion U.S. dollars in sales last year. It has opened supermarkets in 12 Chinese cities.
