BEIJING, May 1 (Xinhua) -- China's light industry registered a double-digit growth in the first quarter of this year, with total output value increasing by 10.8 percent over the same period of last year. About 94.41 percent of the industry's output were sold, up 7.06 percentage points, according to the State Bureau of Light Industry. The industry turned out a total of 135.763 billion yuan (about 16.36 billion US dollars) worth of products during the period, figures from the bureau showed. Officials with the bureau attributed the growth mainly to holiday consumption during the Spring Festival which fell in February, and favorable policies adopted by the central government last year that enlarged domestic demand. Figures showed that production of major products including canned food, milk, air-conditioners and freezers witnessed faster growth while sugar, beer and liquor saw a reduction in output.
